Question

A couple people have now invited me to join facebook. If you join and set your profile to private, what can be seen by anyone looking up your name? What are the benefits of joining?

(I know at least a few of you must have a facebook page)

If you set up a profile on Facebook, only the people you accept as friends can see it. Others, such as those that search for you, can only see your name, location, and the picture you have as your profile picture. It can be used to network or recconect with people- several of our cousins are on it. There are also fun games and stuff that you can do.

I have a facebook and really enjoy it. I have reconnected with friends from nursing school and just became 'friends' with someone I went to high school, and that goes back 32 years!! And everything Laura said is right...you only accept the friends or request the friends you want. The only thing I have found is that I am in the 'Allentown network' and sometimes I am able to see other peoples' facebooks who are also in that same network....but then others I can't, so I'm not sure how that works, other than it must be some setting that either I have or they must have. You might want to check with Jamie, she had one and 'deleted' it, although I guess technically you can't really delete it. I'm friends with a lot of friends from church, some from work, some of Alyssa's friends, some of Adam's friends....

Yeah, all they will see is a tiny box to request to add you as a friend or to mail you on facebook.

Its not that bad.

Well I found it invasive and when I tried to delete my account, it kept telling me either my password or the word I had to type was wrong and I know I typed them right. I also don't need to know when or if a friend adds another friend (why is that my business?) or what I bought, yes it tracks you. And Windows Live (msn) is doing the same type of thing now. Time to get rid of that one too.

i don't use it b/c anyone can see your pictures...for example...my friend can send me a link for so and so's album of pictures and i can look through all of them without even having an account. plus i just didn't enjoy it but that's just me!

If there are specific people you are trying to avoid that have a facebook account, you also have the option of blocking them. They can't see anything about you, ever. Regardless of it being on a friends page, they wont even see you come up in the search for people you may know. (I did that to the wolf boys)

LOL, I didnt want any of those freaks finding me. I also just blocked Dan last night as well. I figure since he no longer wants to be a part of my life, and claims he never loved me, no sense in him knowing what is currently going on in my life, right?

This is Claire, and I deleted mine a year ago and never looked back. You'll find it frustrating to get an account as you have to register with a work or school email, or else have a friend invite you into a network that you have to join. Then, a lot of my friends (might be different for you) would always be using applications and games and things that force them to send 20 friends "invitations" to those games...and you get those CONSTANTLY. I forget who exactly owns the site, but it's sorta shady big business types. You get notifications about all kinds of dumb crap, and eventually if you've got enough friends added it just gets too overwhelming to keep track of. The main thing it's good for is keeping in touch with people you actually care about, which you seem to be doing just fine with on this blog, so if you ask me, it's not really necessary.
