Two Christian Breastfeeding links

Just ran accross these today and thought they were neat. Most, if not all, of you won't be interested.

Milk of Kindness, a Christian perspective of breastfeeding.

A catholic web page on Mary as a nursing mother. Includes many images of Mary and Jesus-paintings and sculptures-even shows Mary breastfeeding a toddler Jesus and often (gasp!) an exposed breast! Once upon a time those things were not scandalous but commonplace.

i was very intrigued to see ALL the breastfeeding paintings at the metropolitan museum in NYC. i am telling you, including mary and jesus ones, they were everywhere. it just wasnt such a big deal as it is now. the formula companies probably played "whisper down the alley" and spread the word that it is "bad" and "indecent" BLAH to them all!

I think (ironically) religion played a big part in it too. People think it's indecent to see a child feeding. God made the body, there's nothing wrong with the body itself. And since he designed it to feed babies with how can it be an wrong for people to feed their baby that way? I just think it's sad that people can't see a breast as anything other than sexual.

My mother told me that when she had us, you just didn't breastfeed. No one did. After all, there was formula. And it is work to feed babies formulas because you had to sterilize the bottles. So I think that's how bottle feeding was introduced as something new & innovative. And after it caught on, then it became indecent to show the breast (also coinciding with the hollywood starlets (with big breasts) and glorifying big breasts and ppl just forgot what they are supposed to be used for.
