over/under- parenting
Another link, I know. It's a little one though. A short article by a woman who thinks parents have been underparenting their babies and then overparenting their kids/teenagers. My kids are still little, but it seems about right from what I've observed.

thats nicely written...i remember people looking at me weird when i'd pick jonathan up the second he'd start to whimper. i even remember spending most of the day holding him while i cooked, cleaned, etc. when he was still light enough to do that! john would tell me to put him in his crib when he'd fall asleep in my lap but i was just satisfied sitting there staring at him or reading a book. i can't promise i still won't be so attached when he gets older but i am logical and i do realize that he needs to experience his own things. i just wish the mommy guilt would go away when he hurts himself, thats the hardest thing for me!
