Love this movie review from parentdish. It's the last sentence that gets me.
Books
It's all about the thrill of the purchase in Sophie Kinsella's Confessions of a Shopaholic. The main character, Becky, is a shallow and self-absorbed woman searching for a wealthy husband to subsidize her spendthrift ways. She's a liar and a snoop and more interested in looking good than doing the right thing. OK for Kids 15+
LOL-she's a bad person who does bad and somewhat harmful things. Ok for kids! (I know they mean kids 15 and up, but still!)

I have read the shopaholic books and I have to disagree with their snopsis of it. The main character mismanages her money and this lands her in a lot of trouble, yes. However, she, like all single women, is searching for A husband, not neccesarily a rich husband. She happens to find a rich husband. And I might add the Shopaholic books can be found in the fiction section, not the teen or children's section, of your local bookstore because they are written for adults, not children.
The book and movie don't necesarily tell the same story-until you see the movie you don't know. Movies often take the substance away from the story. The reason they review the movie is so that parents ARE aware that the movie is not aimed at teens. I can see a parent thinking, OH! Shopaholic! That's just like my teen! and sending them out to see it.
Not that this is horrible or the worst thing out there. My point is just that there are much better things for our kids (of any age really) to see.
