A friend tipped us off about a big church yard sale today in Easton. Tom had his first day off in about two months, so the whole family went. It's funny, Tom was mad because we were running very very late today, we got there a half hour before the sale ended. But it worked out to our favor since they were just giving us stuff to get rid of it. They gave us some toys, some books, the pictured ice-cream maker, which I would have bought if she hadn't given it to us. At that table she was quoting prices at first, but changed her mind. Later she mentioned that she was one of six siblings and the younger four were close in age. She said our kids reminded her of her siblings. She said we could make ice-cream as a family on a Friday night-pass it around to the kids to take turns cranking. They gave Tom some shirts, though I doubt he'll use them. We'll pass them along. Jacob found a dinosaur and picked it up saying, "ROAR!"
Anyone have the recipie for making ice-cream? (I think I remember Jamie mentioning having an ice-cream maker-please help us!)

My recipe is pretty simple, just about a half a cup of sugar mixed with a cup of milk (I've used 1% and whole with no huge difference)...once the sugar is dissolved, add about a teaspoon of vanilla and a container of heavy or light cream. The heavy cream leave you with a custardy consistency so I prefer the light cream. It's over a cups worth of cream, not the tiny container, the next size (sry! I don't know exactly how many ounces it is!) It churns for about 25 minutes. Then you need to put it in the freezer right away in a tupperware container for a while to set up.
I've made strawberry by making the vanilla above and then at the last 10 minutes or so I add COLD strawberry syrup. We make the syrup by cooking cut strawberries with sugar until the liquid part starts to get thick (the strawberries will break down in the sugar, making a syrup...you just need to boil the heck out of it for a while but keep stirring or it will burn!) If you want to add regular strawberries then, just fold them in when you transfer it to the freezer.
I assume that the ice cream maker you got (it is really cute btw!!!)has an element that gets frozen or something? If so, make sure when it gets washed, the stuff in the inside is completely thawed and you use lukewarm water. Otherwise the element will crack, it happened to my mom!
p.s. I am so excited for yard sale season!!!
Thanks especially for the advice about cleaning it, I wouldn't have known!
